One of the main concerns for companies and organizations regarding security is data loss.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This is compounded by concerns about data leaks, whether intentional or unintentional, caused by users.<\/span><\/p>\n

Data leaks can be triggered by malware infection on a network device, identity theft, or deception\/fraud targeting a user.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Need for OneDrive User Education and Training<\/b><\/h2>\n

In these circumstances, companies must be prepared and have an appropriate response when such events occur.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

One aspect to prepare is the users themselves; they must be informed and trained in security matters to make decisions and take action if they suspect they are being attacked.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

But if that's not enough, the IT administrator must be prepared and have tools to help prevent unexpected, accidental, or attack-induced data leaks.<\/span><\/p>\n

It may be a simple option, but limiting sharing with OneDrive for users<\/strong> can save us from headaches if their configuration isn't correct.<\/span><\/p>\n

OneDrive Sharing Restrictions<\/b><\/h2>\n

Let's see how we can <\/span>limit users' ability to share files with external users outside<\/b> our organization.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Sometimes we have security and compliance policies that analyze the data we publish from our organization to limit these actions.<\/span><\/p>\n

But if the option we're about to present is active, any user can share files with external users of our organization.<\/span><\/p>\n

External Sharing Options in OneDrive<\/b><\/h2>\n

We can review this in the user's own settings.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Once the user is selected and we've accessed their settings panel, we go to the \"OneDrive\" tab.<\/span><\/p>\n

Right after, we access \"Sharing,\" specifically the \"Manage external sharing\" link.<\/span><\/p>\n

Additionally, there are other options, as shown in the previous image, that allow us to fine-tune the configuration if we permit external sharing in OneDrive.<\/span><\/p>\n

Knowing these options exist can help us, to some extent, protect our organization's data. Complement them with other policies and ensure they work correctly through testing.<\/span><\/p>\n
