Microsoft 365 Admins Tip: Control Office Updates

A productivity tool like Microsoft Office is constantly evolving and undergoes continuous updates throughout the year. In addition to the improvements and new features that Microsoft developers implement, the Redmond giant also listens to users and incorporates their recommendations or requests. All of this results in many updates to Office in a short period of time.

In this article, we'll review how we, as Microsoft 365 Administrators, can control the Office updates that are applied to our users' devices. We have a control console where we can schedule them, stay informed about improvements and new features, and check if they're applicable to our current needs.

We need to access our Microsoft 365 Admin console. Once there, go to "Settings" and then to "Org settings".

 

 

Inside, select the "Microsoft 365 Apps" option to access the different update options for installed Office applications.

 

 

As we can see, we can control the frequency with which we want Office updates to be deployed to our users' devices. We have three options to choose from, depending on what suits us best. We can apply updates as soon as they're available, once a month, or every six months.

Sometimes Office updates include improvements or changes that might affect our users' work or the integration of Office applications with third-party ones. That's why we have this method to apply updates when we want, giving us time to verify the changes and implement them.
