Item Journals in Dynamics NAV

There are many questions regarding the purpose of each journal that affects items, since many of them are not commonly used by end users. Below is an explanation of the function of each one.

Item Journal. This journal allows you to adjust inventory levels directly, without posting a sales or purchase document. These adjustments can be of type Purchase, Sale, Positive Adjustment, or Negative Adjustment.

Physical Inventory Journal. Its purpose is to record the physical count of the warehouse, which companies should perform periodically. Through this journal, the theoretical stock of each item is compared with the actual stock in the warehouse, and any differences are posted.

Reclassification Journal. Sometimes it is necessary to correct information related to items in inventory, such as changing dimensions, warehouse, bin, serial numbers, lot numbers, etc. This journal allows you to make these changes.

BOM Journal. Related to the Bill of Materials functionality defined in the item card, its purpose is to automatically post an inventory consumption for the components included in the BOM and an inventory output for the BOM item itself.

Revaluation Journal. This journal is used to modify the inventory value of items, allowing revaluation based on actual costs.

Additionally, there are other journals in Dynamics NAV that affect item movements and are found in the advanced Warehouse and Production modules, such as the Consumption Journal and the Output Journal.

In future posts, we will take a closer look at some of them.
