Today I will show you some small tips to improve your performance and your day-to-day with OneNote.
In fact, this blog comes from a transcription I did in OneNote from the video I share with you here.
Why is transcription useful in OneNote?
The transcription function in OneNote is a powerful tool for automatically converting audio or video recordings into written text.

It is ideal for students who want to review their classes, professionals who need to record important meetings, or anyone who wants to capture and organize information without losing details.
This function not only saves time, but also facilitates the search and editing of transcribed content, making all your information accessible and well-organized with a single click.
Let's see how to do it.
How to Transcribe Audio or Video in OneNote?
Step 1: Open OneNote

To get started, we will scroll to Home and look for the OneNote application. Once we find it, we will open it.
Step 2: Access the Options Ribbon

Once the application is open, we will scroll to the top and click on Home. On the ribbon, we will move until we reach the three dots and look for the Transcription section.
Step 3: Upload or Record Audio
In the transcription section we will have two options: upload or record.

In our case, we are going to use load audio, which is useful for transcribing conversations or previously recorded meetings. We will select the file in MP3 or MP4 format and let it load.
Step 4: Configure the Transcription
Once the file has been uploaded, we can configure it in several ways. We can add it directly and select how we want the text to be transcribed:
- Only as text
- With speaker identified
- With timestamps
- With speaker and timestamps

In our case, we are just going to add it as text. And as you can see, here is the transcription of the audio we have added.
How to extract text from an image with OneNote?
Another advantage that OneNote has is the ability to extract text from an image.
Step 1: Insert the Image in OneNote

For this, we go to Insert and click Images. Then we select From a file and look for the image we want to add.
Step 2: Copy Text from the Image

We add the image and right-click on it. We will see the option Copy text from image. When selected, the text from the image will be copied to the clipboard.
Step 3: Paste the Text

We can paste the copied text into OneNote or any other application like a notepad, Word, or Excel. We simply scroll to the desired location and press Control + V.
