Microsoft 365 Admin Tip: Guest Access Control in Teams

Collaborating with Microsoft 365 tools is one of the most interesting features of Microsoft's cloud solution. Allowing users invited to our organization to access our Teams platform is ideal for maintaining contact and direct access with these invited users. But as with everything, we can manage and administer these accesses and the tasks that these invited users can perform within our Teams. In this article, we show how to access the panel that allows us to configure what tasks invited users can perform within our Teams.

There are various elements we can modify. Here we will show how to reach them, and then each Microsoft 365 administrator will decide what to allow and what to restrict according to the company's own policies. Whenever we refer to a configuration element of any Microsoft 365 tool, we mention the need to access from the Admin Centers. This time will be no different, and we will need to go to the Teams Admin Center to review the configuration of the matter at hand.

To see these options, within the Teams Admin Center, we must go to "Users" and click on "Guest access."

Once there, on the right we will see all the options that allow us to configure the platform to determine how this access will work and control what external users can do in our Teams. To start, we can decide whether to allow guest access or not. This is the first major decision to make.

Once this is decided, and if affirmative, we can make decisions on aspects related to private Teams calls, meetings, and messages allowed for invited users. As we said at the beginning, it's a matter of reviewing the options and modifying what we need to manage guest access to Teams.

Microsoft 365 has tools and functions that go beyond access for users in our own organization. Granting access to external users is allowed but must be reviewed and controlled. With elements like the one we show here, we can perform control over certain aspects—in this case, Teams—and adapt it to our needs.
